About
the company

I began Purple Seahorse Productions because as an actor, I started discovering that as large as the entertainment industry is, and as important as it is to be skilled at networking, I wasn’t finding enough stories that I valuably fit into.

This led me to aggressively pursue the writing of stories that I recognized myself, and my voice in. Among all of that writing have been feature films and episodic series, with a focus on diversity in ensemble storytelling.

I had directed a few plays and some shorts along the way and the more I created these stories, the hungrier I became to produce them beyond the pages. I started directing more shorts and plays. I directed two feature films, and I directed a web series where I learned how to edit video footage.

And so with a skillset which now includes acting, writing, directing, producing, and editing, and with networking over the last decade in Southern California to meet other accomplished artists, Purple Seahorse Productions is a production company capable of bringing a complete story to the screen, from inception through production to deliverables.

SHEWAN EDWARD: With an MFA in Acting from Indiana University Bloomington, and BA’s in both Drama and Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis, MO, I have written, directed, and produced 2 feature films, a 10-episode web series, 3 plays, and 7 short films. With an additional 11 fully written and developed features, and 3 fully developed and written first seasons of distinctive episodic series, I have been fortunate to be prolific and sundry in my storytelling. In front of and behind the camera, I am invested in all aspects of the creative process. I am passionately driven in the creation of content which gives voice to underrepresented characters, and is diverse in style and story.
